December 2012

Starting to feel the pressure and stress that leads up to Christmas? The perfect gift for everyone on your list. The toy that they HAVE to have...that then sits unnoticed by the following week. The perfect meal for your family. The baking. The parties. The finances! Why not start a new family tradition? Christmas is the celebration of Christ's birth. Why not make your friend's and family's birthday the focus of a big, significant gift and celebrate Christmas by giving smaller gifts to each other then "adopting" a family or kid who may not otherwise have a Christmas? You will not believe how much better you feel.

On a personal note - our family started this a few years back. Our motivation? I was a single mom going to college when my kids were little. They were Angel Tree kids. The only time in the year they got new clothes or a new toy (other than from grandparents on their birthday) was from people who generously gave. They remember the joy they felt. Now that we are the ones doing the giving we realize the ever greater joy we feel by paying it forward.

Can Buddy the Elf teach us anything about the true meaning of Christmas? YES! This December, The RESCUE Church invites you to join us for a three-week, fun-filled, family-friendly worship experience entitled The ELF Series!
  • Surprise give-aways!
  • Gifts for the kids EVERY week!
  • Fun Christmas music!
  • Guaranteed laughter!
  • Inspirational teaching!
Make sure you invite all your friends for this FUN series. You can start by inviting them to:

We will be kicking off the Christmas season with a party! You don't want to miss the excitement of our pep rally. Our band will be playing and rockin' this place! We will also be having baptisms so if you've accepted Christ and haven't been baptized, now's the time! Then to top off the evening we are having a potluck. If you've never been to one of our pot lucks you have no idea what you're missing. These people can cook & bake!

Dear RESCUE Church Family,

At The RESCUE Church, we believe God has given us a huge vision to bring a message of hope and salvation to hurting people all around the world.  I want to tell you about an exciting opportunity you have this Christmas to participate in that vision through a very special event called the Christmas Tree Offering.

We are asking God to provide $30,000 that will be used to reach people with the message of His love in the following ways:

Christmas Banquet:
On Friday, December 21st The RESCUE Church will once again share the love of Jesus and the hope of the Christmas season as we provide an elegant banquet to people in Moody County who are struggling to make ends meet in these hard economic times and could really use a generous blessing during the holidays.

Multi-Site Technology:
God has called The RESCUE Church, through the use of modern technology, to be one church that meets in multiple locations.   Through His provision of this Christmas Tree Offering, we plan to purchase 6 video conferencing units that will allow our church to expand from our current two locations to six locations!  On the surface, the thought of purchasing technology might not seem too exciting.  But when you understand that there are souls who need Jesus, marriages that need restoring, addictions that need to be broken, and hurting lives waiting on the other side of this technology and message of hope that it will deliver, you can see this is about so much more than just technology… it’s about people!

The RESCUE Church’s Next Campus Launch:
At the moment, we are keeping our next campus location a secret until all the final details are worked out.  Lord willing, in early December we will be going public with the full details of the next RESCUE Church campus that will be launched in early 2013!  We will use a portion of the Christmas tree offering to purchase some of the start-up equipment for this campus.

So how does the Christmas Tree Offering work?
On December 15th & 16th we will place a bare Christmas tree on the stage at both of our campuses.  We then will have a special time of allowing people to come up decorate the tree with their gift.  If you are unable to join us in person on that weekend we invite you to go to our website (www.therescuechurch.org) and participate in the Christmas Tree Offering electronically by clicking the DONATE ONLINE button any time leading up to that weekend.

I believe that God is going to use The RESCUE Church to bring thousands of people into His kingdom from all over the world.  Your generous participation in the year’s Christmas Tree Offering will help make that vision a reality.  Thank you in advance for letting God work through your generosity!

In Christ,
Pastor Jon

WOW! That's a lot of stuff going on in the life of our church! We exist to be outwardly focused to reach people with the life-saving news of Christ! If you're not involved in one of the many opportunities to serve you really are missing out on the "warm fuzzies" that come from helping in even the smallest ways.
No matter if you're shy or outgoing there is a place for you to serve.
  • Multi-media (advancing slides during the worship service)
  • Camera (ensuring Jon is in the center of the screen)
  • Sound (flipping the switches so the band and Jon are heard)
  • First Impressions (making & serving beverages at the coffee bar, greeting our visitors with a smile, open the door for our visitors)
  • Usher (handing out bulletins, passing the buckets during offering)
  • Nursery (watching kids with another person so everyone has the opportunity to hear the message without distraction)
  • RESCUE Kidz (assist Pastor Chase with interactive, fun learning for kids age 4 through grade 5)
  • iCampus (chat with visitors to our online service on Sunday mornings)
We have people who are more than willing to instruct you in each of these areas so you are comfortable.
We utilize an online scheduling program so you can block out any days you are unable to serve.

November 2012

We are officially in the autumn season. The kids are into their school routines, football is played & watched, leaves are crunching underfoot and the sweatshirts have been become a regular part of the wardrobe.
There are quite a few happenings in November that we need to be aware of~
Move your clock back one hour when you go to bed Saturday night, November 3. When you're checking your smoke alarms don't forget to check your carbon monoxide detectors as well!

Remember your vote counts! Be an informed voter!
Ladies: The RESCUE Church DIVAS will meet Friday, November 9 at 6 pm at the Flandreau Campus. This is open to all our campuses and the community. This month's theme is "Through the Decades!" Your challenge is to dress in your favorite decade clothes and accessories! Maybe your favorite character from the 1930s film Wizard of Oz or Gone with the Wind. I think I know at least a few that would go back to the 80s hair if they could! Have fun with it and be creative. You are welcome to bring your yearbooks and favorite photos too! We will be collecting items to donate to the bread basket this month. This is not only a great way to meet other women but you can help prepare the goodies that we share each month. Contact Brianna (jbvoneye@hotmail.com) if you can help out any month.

These men and women have sacrificed to ensure your freedom.
Take the time everyday to be thankful for every little thing in your life. Your family, church, friends, health, life, purpose, job, food, clothing, shelter and most of all new life in Christ!

Looking back:
Volunteers from both Colman and Flandreau campus as well as from the Flandreau Indian School worked two days beautifying The Breadbasket which serves Moody County.

October 2012

Fall has arrived. Everyone seems to be getting back into their post-summer routines. Our Flandreau Campus resumed Saturday services in September just in time. Their weekly Sunday attendance was getting close to 150 people! Praise God! We also continue to see growth in our Colman Campus. We started our third campus in September - our iCampus. We have been seeing growth in this campus as well!

Ten Ways To Help Your Pastor,
Your Church, and Yourself

~ By Ron Hood
1) Treat him with the proper respect. Treat him the same way you would a doctor, a lawyer, or a politician. A pastor's role is more important than all of these professional roles because he is God's appointed leader for you and your family. Therefore esteem him very highly in love for his work's sake. (1 Thess. 5:12-13)
2) Follow your pastor as he follows Christ. (1 Cor. 11:1, Heb. 13:7) Never blindly follow anyone, but always follow the man of God who is following Jesus Christ as set forth in the Word of God. (Phil. 3:17-21)
3) Pray for him often. (Eph. 6:18-20; 2 Thess. 3:1-2) You know how much opposition you receive from the world, the flesh, and the devil; your pastor receives even more, therefore, pray for him! (Scroll down to the next section called "Prayer" for a guide to praying for your pastor.)
4) Obey him as he admonishes you and teaches you the Word of God. (1 Thess. 5:12 and Heb. 13:17) These verses teach that you should submit, obey, and follow.
5) Do not speak against or listen to any gossip or slander about your pastor. First Timothy 5:19 reads, "Don’t listen to a complaint against a leader..." and Eph. 4:29 reads, "Don’t let any unwholesome talk come out of your mouth...." Proverbs 6:16-19 teaches that God hates for us to hurt people with words. Listening to gossip and slander is just as much a sin as speaking it.
6) Support him financially so he can keep his mind on the work of the ministry. (1 Tim. 5:17, 18 and Phil. 4:10-19) The ministry of the Word of God is twice as important as just making a living. If a man cannot properly care for his family, he will be distracted from the ministry. It costs your pastor just as much to live as it does you, and in some cases more because of the additional transportation and the way he is expected to dress.
7) Encourage your pastor. Tell him when he has helped you. Ephesians 4:29 teaches that we should speak that which edifies, or builds up. You minister grace to your pastor when you tell him how he has helped you. He will be a more effective, dedicated servant of God if you give him some feedback on his ministry to you. (Prov. 3:27) It will also be very encouraging if you tell your Sunday School teacher, husband or wife, and children how they have helped or been a blessing to you. Praise doesn't cost - it pays great dividends - in the home, in the church, in the school, and on the job.
8) Be patient and understanding with your pastor, his wife, and his children. Don’t expect your pastor or his family to be perfect; they are human. John 1:5 and James 5:17 teach that a man of God has the same human weaknesses and temptations that we all face.
9) Stay busy serving the Lord. This will bless your life and be a tremendous encouragement to your pastor. You have a spiritual gift, so use it. John 13:17 teaches, "Now that you know these things, you will be blessed if you do them." Happiness doesn't come from knowing what is right; happiness comes from doing what is right. Therefore, serve the Lord.
10) Be a blessing to your pastor, your family, and all who know you by being a soul winner. People all around us are lost in sin, dying and going to hell. Do all in your power to win them to Jesus Christ. Tell them what Christ has done for you and what He can do for them. Reflect on what your salvation means to you and then realize that those who are lost in sin need the same joy, peace, assurance, and hope that you have.

September 2012

By now all the kids are back in school. Some happy and some not so much. The same goes for the parents. While it is an exciting time to meet new teachers and catch up with old friends, it an be anxiety ridden for parents who cannot afford to participate in the ritual of new clothes and school supplies. If a kid has previously been on the receiving end of bullying, going back to school can be a fearful time.
I used to wonder why kids seem to be such bullies, but as I read many facebook posts I can see that the adults are no better. Bullies have always been around but now they can terrorize someone through technology as well.
I wish I could get every student to realize that this time in school is so short compared to the time they will spend on this earth. Going through daily bullying has led many kids to attempt or even succeed in suicide.
Adults - we need to step up and model the behavior we want to see in the upcoming generation. Why wait for a tragedy in your community before your eyes are opened? Be proactive.

August was such a busy month for The RESCUE Church! We started out the month by participating in the Moody County Fair Parade. Our worship band provided the music as people handed out nachos. Why nachos? Because The RESCUE Church is "nacho" ordinary church!

The next project once again involved our EMT (Extreme Ministry Team). They removed and replaced a dangerous deck on the front of a Flandreau community member's home. Just a reminder that each project that is selected is an opportunity for you to be part of the team.

The Colman Campus hosted the Vacation Bible School and boy, oh boy, did they have a blast!

The RESCUE Church had a huge presence at the Looney Day in Colman. The morning started with participating in the parade followed by hosting a free carnival and then ending the day with a free community meal.

Tired yet? To top off the month we did a bit of painting at the Flandreau Campus.

We are committed to being the church!

COMING IN SEPTEMBER
  • The Flandreau Campus will resume Saturday evening services at 5 pm
  • Dave Ramsey's Financial Peace University starts at our Colman Campus - open to everyone!

August 2012

This newsletter comes on the heels of the tragic shooting in Colorado. The RESCUE Church put their message series on hold as Pastor Jon was led to address the question on many people's minds - Where was God during all of this?!. You can hear the message here. We pray not only for the victims and their families but the shooter and his family.

The annual Hot Dog Day was held in Flandreau on July 13. A willing group of people came to help clean out our basement (THANK YOU!) and display the items for a free will donation rummage sale. All of the proceeds were given to The Wholeness Center, a non-profit organization that serves Moody County providing confidential, free services to victims of domestic violence and sexual assault.

Our most recent CLASS 101 - Discovering Church Membership had 13 attendants. It's so exciting to see more and more people wanting to learn about our church and what we're about!

Despite the green water, 29 people were baptized!! Such a joy to watch people show that they have given their lives to Christ!

Coming Up in August
2: Moody County Parade
4 - 5: EMT rebuilding a deck in Flandreau
5-8: VBS in Colman
11: Colman Loony Day parade & carnival

July 2012

As we enter this month of celebrating our nation's freedoms, let us not forget and appreciate the sacrifices made by our armed forces that enable us to worship God without fear. The places where our friends and family are stationed are included the top 10 anti-Christian countries. You can see the list here. I frequently question whether we, as a nation, take our Christian freedoms for granted. When people in these war-torn countries accept Christ as their Savior, they risk everything to worship Him and a Bible becomes a treasured gift. Would we risk losing everything, including our lives and those of our families, to meet with other Christians to worship and learn more about God? Many of us have multiple Bibles in various translations, are they gathering dust or opened in anticipation on a regular basis? Summer is traditionally a season of decreased church attendance. Let's make a point of exercising the right to gather as Christians in honor of the men and women who have given their lives and those that willingly put their lives on the line to give us that right.

We finished up the message series "Not So Modern Parenting" and started "20/20 Vision" during the month of June. If you missed any of them or want to hear them again, you can watch them here. This month we will start a series based on the 10 commandments.

RESCUE Kidz
Your kids age 4 - grade 5 have been having so much fun they don't even realize how much they're learning!

The All Church Campout was held over Father's Day weekend. People from both of our campuses were able to attend and enjoy hanging out together and eating s'mores!

SAVE THE DATE!!
Sunday, July 29 we will have our 2nd annual B3 Party. What is B3? Beach, BBQ and Baptisms held at a local lake. Last year there were 16 people who were baptized! You can watch a video here.

We also blessed another recipient chosen by our EMTs (Extreme Ministry Team). They reshingled the home of a single mother in Colman in just one day! These people went out to "be" the church. A big, huge thanks to everyone who helped with this project and also those who provided meals/beverages for the workers.
Do you know of anyone who could be blessed by the EMTs? Submit your suggestions to therescuechurch@hotmail.com

I Want To Know More About This Church!
You're in luck! CLASS 101 - Discovering Church Membership will be held Saturday, July 14th. For more information click here.

Prayer is not a mysterious practice reserved only for clergy and the religiously devout. Prayer is simply communicating with God —listening and talking to him. Believers can pray from the heart, freely, spontaneously, and in their own words. The Flandreau Campus has Corporate Prayer, which simply is people gathering together to pray, monthly following a Sunday worship service. This month join us on July 8th. The Breakthru prayer group meets the 3rd Wednesday at 701 W 3rd Ave in Flandreau at 7 pm and the 4th Tuesday at the Flandreau Campus at noon. We would love to have you join us as we bring praises and requests to God.
